Despite their extensive use in researching cardiovascular diseases, animal models often demonstrate limitations in accurately reflecting the human response; a further drawback is that traditional cell models generally disregard the crucial in vivo microenvironment, the intricate intercellular communication, and the interactions between various tissues. Through the convergence of microfabrication and tissue engineering, organ-on-a-chip technologies have been developed. A microdevice, the organ-on-a-chip, houses microfluidic chips, cells, and extracellular matrix, replicating the physiological functions of a specific human body region; it is presently viewed as a promising connection between in vivo models and 2D or 3D in vitro cell culture models. Given the challenge of acquiring human blood vessels and hearts, the creation of vessel-on-a-chip and heart-on-a-chip models promises to propel future cardiovascular disease research. Due to their multivalency, orthogonal reactivities, and responsiveness to genetic modifications, viruses are reshaping the biosensing and biomedicine fields. Research on M13 phage, as the most thoroughly studied phage model for phage display library construction, has highlighted its function as a building block or viral scaffold for a range of applications, including isolation/separation, sensing/probing, and in vivo imaging. Through genetic engineering and chemical modifications, M13 phages can be constructed into a multi-functional analysis platform, featuring independent functional zones that carry out their respective duties without mutual impairment. The unique, filamentous morphology and pliability of the substance also enhanced analytical performance in terms of target binding and signal intensification. In this review, the application of M13 phage within analytical arenas and its corresponding advantages are highlighted. We presented genetic engineering and chemical modification approaches to enhance M13 functionality, demonstrating exemplary applications using M13 phages to develop isolation sorbents, biosensors, cell imaging probes, and immunoassay techniques. Finally, remaining current issues and challenges were discussed within this field, and future perspectives were proposed.
Stroke network hospitals that do not provide thrombectomy (referring hospitals) send patients to hospitals equipped for the procedure (receiving hospitals). Improving thrombectomy accessibility and administration necessitates a multifaceted approach, encompassing not just the receiving hospital but also the prior stroke care pathways of referring hospitals.
